Vitech President David Long Inducted as President of INCOSE at International Workshop
Vitech Corporation (http://www.vitechcorp.com/index.shtml) announced last month that Vitech President David Long was officially installed as the President of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) for the 2014-2016 term. The ceremony took place at the 2014 INCOSE International Workshop (IW) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Workshop in Torrance, California. Long, along with all other new officers, officially accepted his position at the start of the MBSE Workshop on Saturday, January 25, where he delivered his first address as INCOSE President.
In his address, Long said, "In this age of systems challenges, it is an exciting time to be a systems engineer. It is the job of INCOSE and its members to ensure technology is applied correctly, that value is delivered to customers and that we change the world to be a better place. I look forward to this opportunity to rise to the challenge.”
Long announced that during his term as INCOSE President, he plans to focus on five areas in order to further INCOSE’s mission over the next two years:
• Maximize the value that the INCOSE chapters provide to existing members – locally and across the entire organization
• Advance the state and practice of systems engineering, not only as the creators of knowledge but also as the brokers and communicators
• Increase awareness of systems engineering and communicate the value to our management, customers, stakeholders and beyond

Geocoding Software Now SERP and CASS Certified
Loqate today announced its industry-leading address verification and geocoding software is now SERP and CASS certified. After months of rigorous testing and meeting the requirements of Canada Post and the United States Postal Service (USPS), Loqate is now recognized as software vendors who may now license SERP and CASS certified software.
“Our obtaining SERP and CASS certifications helps provide our customers with the tools they need for mailing discounts as well as eliminates the need to deal with multiple vendors,” said Martin Turvey, President and CEO of Loqate. “With these achievements, Loqate now has the power to generate address results with the quality and accuracy required to meet these postal authorities’ standards. Because of this, we believe Loqate to be the one-stop shop for everything related to international address cleansing and geocoding.”
Software Evaluation and Recognition Program (SERP) is a Canada Post testing program that evaluates the ability of both commercial and internally-developed software packages to validate and correct mailing lists according to Canada Post requirements. As a SERP vendor, Loqate can now offer their customers the ability to process addresses in a batch environment for mailing in Canada. Users can now also run the new Loqate report facility to obtain the necessary documentation for Canada Post. SERP certified software from Loqate is priced and licensed separately.
Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) is a system used by the USPS to evaluate the accuracy of software that corrects and matches street addresses. CASS certification enables Loqate users to qualify for postage discounts on bulk mailings. It also ensures address accuracy and deliverability. Customers who purchase Loqate’s CASS Certified solution will be provided with the following:
• ZIP+4 Delivery Point Code – A Delivery Point Code is a specific set of digits between 00 and 99 assigned to every address; when combine with the ZIP+4 code, this Delivery Point Code provides a unique identifier for every deliverable address served by the USPS
• Five-Digit – The primary 5-digit ZIP code
• Carrier Route – Group of addresses to which the USPS assigns the same code to aid in mail delivery
• SuiteLink – Contains business addressing information which allows us to add the secondary number (i.e., suite) to a business address
• LACSLink – Contains converted addresses that primarily arise from the implementation of the 911 system, which commonly involves changing rural-style addresses to city-style addresses
• DPV – Identifies whether an address is currently represented in the USPS delivery file as a known address record
• eLOT – Provides mailers the ability to sort their mailings in approximate carrier-casing sequence
As with SERP, users can run the Loqate report facility to generate the CASS Report and the CASS Summary Report. The CASS Report is used in the CASS certification process and is available to Loqate partners and clients who may be interested in obtaining CASS certification themselves. This report is generated and submitted to the USPS for evaluation during the CASS certification process. The second report: the Postal Service Form 3553 Report (or PS3553 Report) also known as the CASS Summary Report certifies to the post office that a mailing has been processed by CASS certified software. This is required for users who are interested in qualifying for postage discounts.

Software Takes Command
What was the thinking and motivations of people who in the 1960 and 1970s created concepts and practical techniques that underlie contemporary media software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, Final Cut and After Effects? How do their interfaces and tools shape the visual aesthetics of contemporary media and design? What happens to the idea of a 'medium' after previously media-specific tools have been simulated and extended in software? Is it still meaningful to talk about different mediums at all? Lev Manovich answers these questions and supports his theoretical arguments by detailed analysis of key media applications such as Photoshop and After Effects, popular web services such as Google Earth, and the projects in motion graphics, interactive environments, graphic design and architecture. Software Takes Command is a must for all practicing designers and media artists and scholars concerned with contemporary media.
