Interior design ideas: with the old-photos
"I don't live in the past," says Guy Hills, which opens the door to his Victorian house in North London boasting four plus, pointy slippers and Brylcreem. Once inside, it becomes clear that your statement is at odds with your House, too: it has almost entirely decorated with vintage finds and reclaimed, revived and reinvented by Maria Speake, designer and co-founder of Retrouvius, a company dedicated to save and reuse the old.
The four-storey house in Primrose Hill, one of the most creative neighborhoods of London (Nicholas Hytner and Helen Fielding live on the same street and every second home, apparently, bears a blue plaque). Regent's Canal flows through the Garden: "we can sometimes paddling to the London Zoo with the kids, or the Camden Lock," says Hills. Photo: Rachael Smith

Interior Image Group designs new hotel casegoods line for Klem Hospitality
Interior Image Group (www.interiorimagegroup.com), one of the hospitality industry's emerging leaders of interior architecture and design, was recently selected by Klem, the renowned manufacturer of hospitality furniture, to collaborate on the design of an entire new line of hotel guestroom furniture to be branded as their new “Imagination” Series.
The first of four distinct styles - called ‘Cosmopolitan’ - had its debut to the industry at the Hospitality Design Expo this past May in Las Vegas at the Klem booth. The four-part series is a joint effort by both IIG and Klem to turn “Inspiration” into reality, featuring the light, airy openness of European influence.
The concept for the “Cosmopolitan” headboard was drawn from the night sky of metropolitan Chicago bordering the Great Lakes. The raised dark walnut panel, representing the water, has a translucent appearance, allowing wave after wave of grain and texture to show. Vertical brushed metal insets hint at the Chicago Skyway, with the dark walnut ‘lake’ surrounded by a grid work of routed carvings to represent city cross-streets, all with a clear finish on beautiful natural walnut.
Patti Tritschler, President of IIG, commented: “Our design team is so honored to work with Klem to create this whole new series and this is only the beginning. The second design in this series is already underway and promises to be just as interesting and beautiful, with perhaps some different twists.”
Interior Image Group and Klem are creating the “Imagination” series with a variety of ancillary items to coordinate with each headboard personality. Designed as standalone items, they can be built to fit almost any design concept. The pieces work the way guests actually use them while facilitating housekeeping, which makes them a practical, attractive and efficient solution. The flexible format allows designers and hoteliers to select materials for their specific purposes.

Italian interior design celebrate Mirò and Picasso
A project that combines the most genuine italian handmade tradition in the field of furniture-making with the personality of a great artistic movement: a limited edition dedicated to those who want to turn their own house into a living work of art. Manufactured, carved and decorated all by hand, here are the dressers that blend baroque and contemporary design: symbiosis design by vazzari
Establishing a connection between the great Italian furniture-making tradition and the greatest personalities of the avant-garde that have marked the history of contemporary art.
A challenge wholeheartedly picked up by "Simbiosi Design", a project by Vazzari that sets out to merge the hallmarks of baroque furnishings and the famous paintings of the most groundbreaking artistic experiences of the Twentieth Century. The goal: to blend the art forms of the past to the present, in perfect symbiosis - as the name suggests.
Thus the Miro and Picasso dressers come into being: limited editions, they are furnishings made entirely by hand by cabinetmakers and carvers of great experience according to the standards of the handicraft production of classic luxury furniture.
The big news is in the trims: instead of resorting to the usual gold and silver leaf finish, which is typical of baroque production, the two dressers are decorated in "May 1968" by Joan Miro or "Le peintre et son modèle" by Pablo Picasso. All of this, once again, is strictly handmade.
The choice fell on these two great artists on the anniversary of their deaths, respectively in 1983 and 1973, while the paintings were selected for their aesthetic value as well as for the profound meanings they convey.
In "May 1968" we find the artistic representation of the slogan "power to imagination" - slogan that has characterized the student riots of 1968, which the painting is dedicated to: the expression of a freedom and a vitality that spill over into colorful blots, sketches, and handprints.
Thus, while young people challenged the paradigms on which contemporary society was based, Miro changed the canons of art: just as the canons of baroque had overhauled those in vogue in their time, marking a decisive turning point from the past.
Along with the paradigm shifts, however, there is also a parallel reflection on the very nature of artistic creation. A return to the very essence of the inspiration and the impulses that drive the painter, the artist, and the man: a reflection carried out with the tip of the paintbrush by Pablo Picasso in his famous "Le peintre et son modèle". Here, in an interplay of volumes - of fullness and hollowness - and colored patterns an unbreakable bond between the painter and the model is created.
Amid the soft curves we see faces, parts of the body, the painter's studio. Yet above all the rest, the eye of the beholder is captivated by the flow of free artistic compulsion that breaks the mold and crashes onto the canvas.
"Symbiosi Design" is a project by Vazzari, a company specialized in the production of luxury classic furniture. Following the footsteps of the great Italian furniture-making, Vazzari offers its worldwide clientele stunning furniture that is made entirely by hand by skilled craftsmen.

Space winner Laura Stein gold interior is a beautiful master bedroom of Leaside designed for homeowners with an appreciation of the finer things. While the rest of their house was a gallery of treasures, their bedroom main had fallen into a State of neglect and was in dire need of an upgrade. With a mandate for the discreet luxury, Laura Stein Interiors has transformed the room an old-fashioned and cluttered in a flooded area of light with luxurious linens, a hint of glamour, a touch of masculinity and a place to expire at the end of the day.
To make the most of the L-shaped piece, a floor plan was designed to integrate lounge library-like with a TV on an articulated arm and lots of storage near the door. The bed was placed under the window to take advantage of the light of the morning sun. "The owners wanted a space cosy and romantic with a lot of womanly gentleness but enough masculinity to keep the feeling of space to the Earth," adds Stein. The carpet has been replaced with hard wood, panels and mouldings were added and luxurious fabrics in an airy palette and were set against pure furniture and deep, rich wood tones.
In the lounge, a feeling pleasant library was created around a sofa in linen, a large pouf tufte and a library built to display perfectly of the couple discovered travel, photos and collection of literature. The colorful books and art add an unexpected pop to the palette soft hot metal and wood. "Special attention was given custom retailer and luxurious finishes," said Stein. "The contrasting back, the gusset and the trim applied to the hand of the cushions, for example, connect the color palette of the two sides of the coin to create an overall feeling of comfort."
A comfortable and romantic retreat house of the masters became the room most used in the House. Architectural details, hot palette, luxurious fabrics and eclectic mix of lighting, art and accessories make the room what the owners call their "perfect little jewel box".
